Guest Post by Perth’s Physio Entrepreneur – Scott Wescombe

Hey there it’s Sal! Welcome back ! Hope you enjoyed the previous blogs!! Today, I’ve got a very inspiring post for you from one of my friend a local Perth City Physio – Scott Wescombe. Physiotherapy Perth or IPhysio was where I went to get my left shoulder fixed about a year ago and Scott fixed me up real fast. Really nice guy and we were from the same uni (Curtin) but what inspired me more was his story and how he turned out to become a very successful entrepreneur before turning 30!!!

Not wasting any time, I’ll let Scott take it from here…

About Me – Scott Wescombe

I completed the following (the key ones):
BSc Physio (1st Class Hons), BSc Exercise & Sports Science, Dance Medicine Australia Clinical Pilates Practitioner, Master Trainer Certificate, Diploma of Fitness & Business Management, Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness, Les Mills Body Trainer

Grew up in Burnie, Tasmania and made the move to Perth WA at 18 years of age to play with the Subiaco Football Club.

I enjoy traveling, health & fitness, and business.

26 years of age was when I opened my first physio practice inside the Loftus Recreation Centre. Within 18 months I have opened another 3 practices – 1 in Tasmania.

What made me decide to pursue my passion

I developed a passion to help people as a teenager in my family business in Tasmania – ‘Wescombe’s Lesiure & Therapy Centre’. Following this experience as a teenager I was motivated to make a difference in peoples lives, through personal training or physiotherapy. Combine this with a passion for business and I jumped at the opportunity to lease space inside the sports centre to begin the journey of my first physiotherapy practice.

To make it happen it took many hours of preparation and education – which still continues today. The preparation and self-education helped reduce/eliminate the risk of failure.

What steps I took

After working 7 days per week clinically, week after week, I soon realised I needed to replace myself if I wanted to help more people and avoid burning out. I decided to work harder for a period of time to create and implement many successful systems – allowing myself to work on the business – rather than inside it. The systems strongly replicated my values, ethics, and beliefs to protect my reputation, and continue to be successful today.

Where are you now

Today, after nearly 2 years in business, I have 4 physiotherapy practices and a team of 28 staff – including 14 well-trained physiotherapists. I am about to officially launch a business coaching service for health & fitness professionals, and an education program for personal trainers to up-skill to achieve better results with clients and ultimately increase their profits.

I leave for Hawaii in 1.5 weeks for a physical therapy business conference.
